Privacy

The short version: your playing never leaves your browser, and you can use almost the whole site without giving us anything.

What happens on your device

Sound generation, note detection, scoring and notation all run locally in your browser using the Web Audio API and, if you connect a keyboard, the Web MIDI API. No audio and no MIDI data is uploaded, recorded or stored on any server.

Microphone

If you turn on the microphone option your browser will ask permission to listen. The audio is analysed for pitch inside your browser and is never recorded, stored or uploaded. Turning the option off releases the microphone immediately.

Progress kept on your device

Your practice streak, session minutes, quiz best and per-piece best scores are stored in your own browser using local storage. They never leave your device, we cannot see them, and there are buttons on the practice tracker and in the practice room that clear them.

The email address you give us

After three sessions in the practice room you are asked for an email address so we can tell you when new pieces and tools are added. Giving it is free and no payment or card details are ever requested. We store the address, the date you confirmed it, and a record that you confirmed. We use it only to send occasional updates about this site. We do not sell it, rent it or pass it to anyone else.

Confirmation is double opt-in: the address does nothing until you click the link we send you. You can ask us to delete it at any time by writing to info@learnpianokeys.com, and every email we send carries an unsubscribe link.

MIDI permission

If you connect a MIDI keyboard your browser will ask permission to access MIDI devices. That permission is granted to your browser, not to us, and you can withdraw it at any time in your browser settings. Declining it does not stop you using the site.

No advertising

This site carries no adverts and no advertising or tracking networks. Nothing here profiles you, follows you to other sites, or sells your attention. If we ever add basic visitor analytics, it will be a privacy-respecting kind that does not build a profile of you, and this page will say so before it happens.

Fonts

Typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to Google’s servers when a page loads.

Your rights

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be erased. Write to info@learnpianokeys.com and we will deal with the request. If you have never given us an email address, we hold nothing about you at all.
